Weekend Money – Business Travel Edition

Cartoon Airplane

Money falling

I am on my way to a conference and trade show in Orlando. I leave Saturday and return Wednesday so the weekend money will definitely be impacted.  First by making sure Mirror Image, Thrifty Pooch and the Thrifty Cottage are all taken care of. And second, by purchasing items or services I wouldn’t ordinarily purchase on account of being out-of-town.

How to spend the Weekend Money:

Church (I will donate electronically through the website since I will be out-of-town) – $328

Groceries – $25

Fun Outing – $0

Hotel* – $390

Parking* – $18

Taxi* – $40

Snacks for travel – $5

Restaurant Food* – $80

Hotel Spa Service – $125 + tip

Total – $1,011

* Travel expenses for which I will be reimbursed.  In order to accumulate travel miles and points, I will pay on my Barclay’s Arrival card.

Certainly my most expensive weekend in a long time.  If ever.

These are just Friday, Saturday and Sunday expenses.

I haven’t completely decided but I might indulge in a spa service.  Likely a massage.  It is a little pricey – like most things in Orlando.  I do have a feeling however that I will need the service since the booth we will be constructing for the conference is HEAVY.

Mirror Image will have a lot of fun this weekend that will cost me nothing extra.  While I am gone, she will go to Ripley’s Believe it or Not on Saturday and RockinJump on Sunday.  It will be nice to finally have those two adventures used up.  Plus, if she is kept busy, she won’t weep because she misses me so much.  Yeah, right…

As for my fun, being in a lovely hotel without having to get up early each morning and walk the dog is fun enough. But the cherry on top will be watching the Walking Dead (if it is available on my hotel cable), doing my taxes and taking a dip in the hot tub. All of these are free.

For now, I need to stop writing about spending money but actually go spend it and then pack.

“What fun and exciting things are we going to do this weekend?”  I know what that means…

That means the weekend is here and it is time to plan the money!

I am going to pre-spend here on this post, then reconcile on Monday.  I plan for this to be another avenue of accountability and budgeting.  So here we go:

  • Church (tithes/offering) = $328
  • Gas = $20
  • Personal Care (haircut, mani/pedi, etc.) = $0
  • Groceries = $45
  • Dollar Tree = $10
  • Vehicle Service/Repair = $0
  • Clothes Shopping = $0
  • Gifts = $0
  • Restaurant = $0
  • Zips Dry Cleaning = $0
  • Prescriptions = $35
  • Fun Outing = $0
  • Total = $438

Church (tithes & offering) – I was paid this week – yeah! I set aside my tithes and offering first.

Groceries – I need to stock up on the basics – dairy milk, almond milk, cheese and the like. Aldi has chicken thighs on sale and that is my FAVORITE chicken to buy so that is definitely on the list. Aldi also has some clothes drying racks on special this week I may pick-up.  I would like to start using the dryer less to save money.

Gas – It is so inexpensive now.  I think it will only take $20 to fill me back up.  I am just below half tank right now.

Dollar Tree – I still need a few more organization bins and then I should be done. I will also likely get Mirror Image a few boxes of Hot Tamales or Sugar Babies.  She will separate those out into smaller portions to add to her lunch during the week.

Restaurant – Gosh, I hope not. I gave in to Mirror Image last weekend and went to Panda Express. But I want to stay strong this weekend.

Prescriptions – I will definitely pick that medicine up this weekend!

Fun – Mirror Image wants to have a friend over for a slumber party this weekend.  So between that and making clay for her class project, I think we will have the giggly girl and making a mess fun all covered. The adults of the house will be having fun walking the thrifty pooch many times, watching movies from the library, reorganizing the home office and taking FULL advantage of the FREE HBO PREVIEW on Verizon FiOS this weekend!!!

I will be back on Monday to tally up my successes (or fails).

Weekend Money #2

Money

I rarely use cash anymore…

The weekend is here and it is time to plan the money!

When I started this test last week, I realized that I forgot some  spend categories so the list below is revised.

I am going to pre-spend here on this post, then reconcile on Monday.  I plan for this to be another avenue of accountability and budgeting.  So here we go:

  • Church (tithes/offering) = $353
  • Gas = $0
  • Personal Care (haircut, mani/pedi, etc.) = $0
  • Groceries = $60
  • Dollar Tree = $10
  • Vehicle Service/Repair = $0
  • Clothes Shopping = $0
  • Auntie’s B-day gifts = $100
  • Restaurant = $30
  • Zips Dry Cleaning = $0
  • Prescriptions = $50
  • Fun Outing = $0
  • Total = $603

Church – I was paid this week (yeah!) and my tithes and offering will go into the storehouse on Sunday.

Groceries – Sigh.  This is higher than I usually budget for groceries to account for making a special breakfast for my family on Saturday and having special foods for the Super Bowl.  I am making Saint Louis Style Ribs using this recipe – http://www.wmarketnyc.com/recipes/apps/stlouisstyleribs.html#.  Aldi had these ribs on sale this week so I am indulging.

Dollar Tree – I expect to only spend $10 or less over the weekend at the Dollar Tree.  That is largely because I have shopped there every day this week to use up some coupons and to buy some organizing bins and systems.

Auntie’s B-day gifts – Will try this one again.

Restaurant – As a matter of habit, I try to minimize our restaurant/fast food eating.  We did not eat our at all in January – success! However, I am spending Saturday with family members that are coming up to visit. They have already shared they want to go out to eat lunch.  So, hopefully I can keep our bill down to $30.

Prescriptions – I still need to pick those up…

No “fun” stuff planned other than being together with the people I love.  Will likely rent a movie from the Library or just plan to enjoy those Super Bowl ads.

I will be back on Monday to tally up my successes (or fails).
